The Forges du Saint-Maurice was the centre of Canada’s first iron-making industry. For 150 years, the Forges produced iron and cast iron products for military and domestic use. Visit the Grande Maison and the blast furnace, and learn how the industrial community developed. Don’t miss the many archaeological remains in this richly historic place!

  • Open in summer, May 8 to June 23, Wednesday to Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Last admission 4:30 pm June 24 until Labour Day, daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Last admission 4:30 pm September to October 11, Wednesday to Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Last admission 4:00 pm Groups visits available from mid-October to mid-May by reservation only.

Programmation
July 25 A Foundry in Action and the Spoonmaker 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Craftsmen teach you the basics of their art. Watch as spoons and metal objects are cast. Feel the heat of the molten metal and marvel at how the craftsmen handle fire. Presented in collaboration with Pavillon de la Fonderie, Centre de formation professionnelle Qualitech de Trois-Rivières and David Ledoyen, spoonmaker.

  • Grande Maison Inside the Grande Maison a combination store and ironmasters’ house–discover a museum, scale models, and a 27-minute sound-and-light show on the life of ­a worker in 1845.
  • The blast furnace In the blast furnace, the primary production centre, see how cast iron was made in the 18th and 19th centuries.
